Same ol’ same ol’

2020.06.24

Meaning:

‘Same ol’ same ol’ means ‘nothing special’ or ‘nothing different’. Ol’ is short for ‘old’. ‘Same ol’’ is short for ‘the same old story’. So this is a natural way to answer ‘What’s new?’ or ‘What have you been doing recently?’ It means, ‘I’ve been doing the same things I usually do.’

Example:

A: Hey, long time no see! What have you been up to?
B: Same ol’, same ol’. How about you?
A: Oh come on! It’s been a year since I last saw you! You must have some news.
B: Nope. Same ol’ work. Same ol’ husband. Haha. Seriously – nothing has changed.

Talking Point(s):

How do you say ‘same ol’, same ol’ in Japanese ?
