let down

Meaning:
‘let down’ can be a verb or an adjective. It means ‘to disappoint’ or ‘disappointed’. If I say, ‘He let me down’, it means ‘he disappointed me’ or ‘he didn’t meet my hopes’. For example, this week Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, gave a famous interview. In the interview, Harry said he felt ‘let down’ by his father (Prince Charles). In other words, Harry was disappointed by Charles. He had hoped for support from Prince Charles, and felt that he didn’t get it.
Example:
A: I need you to pick me up from hospital tomorrow. Don’t let me down!
A: Hey – you met your favourite tv star yesterday, right? Was it great?
B: Meh. He was actually really rude. And he wasn’t so good-looking in real life. I felt a bit let down.
Talking Point(s):
