It came to me

2021.01.26

Meaning:

‘It came to me’ means ‘I just had a thought without thinking hard’. For example, imagine you realised that using different software for work was a good idea. You could say, ‘It came to me that we should use different software.’ Or imagine you thought of a good idea for a friend’s birthday gift. You could say, ‘I was thinking of how Tarou likes video games, and it came to me: why don’t we buy him a VR headset for his birthday!’

Example:

A: Guess what? Our son ate 7 vegetables at dinner tonight!
B: How’d you do that? He hates vegetables.
A: It just came to me to mash all the vegetables and make them into a hamburger patty. He loved it!

Talking Point(s):

What was your last good idea? Did it just come to you, or did you
have to work hard at it?
